Autochrome plates included a mosaic shade filter layer made from dyed grains of potato starch, which allowed the three colour components to be recorded as adjacent microscopic picture fragments. Autochrome plates were certainly one of several kinds of additive color display plates and films marketed between the 1890s and the Fifties.
