Rolph and Charlie are reading in the sand beneath a palm tree when Lou will get back with the snorkeling tools, however Rolph puts apart “The Hobbit” without protest and stands. Charlie ignores them, and Lou wonders momentarily if he should have included her. He and Rolph stroll to the sting of the sea and pull on their masks and flippers, hanging their spears from belts at their sides. His mom is a reader and a gardener, and Lou is continually having to struggle her affect.
