Since 2009, however, their rates of growth have diverged; while food-at-home prices deflated in 2016 and 2017, monthly food-away-from-home costs have been rising consistently since then. Department of Agriculture , Economic Research Service , the beef and veal class has had the largest relative value increase (8.7 percent) and the fresh greens category the smallest (0.9 percent). No food categories have decreased in price in 2021 in contrast with 2020.
