Lesions include in depth ulceration with overlying diphtheritic membranes within the abdomen and over Peyer’s patches within the small gut and cecum, though they will happen in other areas inside the gastrointestinal tract. Congestion is widespread within the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and urinary bladder. Regions of cyanosis or mucosal ulceration may be seen within the skin, tongue, trachea, and larynx. The myocardium may be pale. Rinderpest was eradicated within the wild in 2011 but continues to be an OIE listed notifiable disease.
