Classical Swine Fever , also called hog cholera, is attributable to an enveloped RNA virus of the Pestivirus genus and is OIE notifiable. The natural hosts for CSF virus are members of Suidae. The illness causes major economic losses in home pig populations. The Eurasian wild boar is also susceptible and plays an important function in the transmission and epidemiology of the disease in Europe (Artois et al., 2002, Rossi et al., 2005). The wild boar is not a basic reservoir however is succesful of maintaining an infection over long periods of time (Artois et al., 2002).
