After breakfast in the morning, you will be driven to the less explored eastern Uganda, passing through Jinja, Uganda's second biggest town (you'll return to Jinja on Day 10 to explore this fascinating destination full throttle), before arriving in Mbale, a lively town perched on the foothills of Mount Elgon, Africa's seventh highest mountain. Along the way, you will enjoy great views of the Sipi Falls, the volcanic mountain brooding in the distance, as well as and various traditional homesteads. You will have lunch and dinner at Lacam Lodge, which will also be your abode for tonight. You will interact with the farmers and learn how coffee is processed locally and also get an opportunity to enjoy freshly-brewed coffee while you relax and marvel at the beautiful sunset. After breakfast, you will head north to Kitgum district on a long, yet spectacular journey with breathtaking views of beautiful landscapes and villages. Off-the-beaten-track, the trip to Kitgum will help you learn about the effects of several years of war that ravaged the area, as well as how the locals are now rising from the abyss. Luckily, there is no more waring in the area, so your safety is guaranteed. You will have lunch at a restaurant along the way, arriving in Kitgum late afternoon. Upon arrival, you'll just relax, dine and sleep at Fulgy's Guesthouse ahead of tomorrow's journey to Kidepo Valley National Park. Journey time: 8 hours Accommodation options: Fulgy's Guesthouse

Day 5: Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park
In the morning after breakfast, you'll visit a local primary school before continuing your journey northwestwards to Uganda's border with South Sudan and into the magnificent Kidepo Valley National Park. Upon arrival, you will check into Nga'moru Wilderness Camp, where you'll have lunch before heading out for a game drive in the park – an expedition that should produce sightings of various animal and bird species, including lions, giraffes, elephants and a variety of birds. After the game drive, you'll head back to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight. Journey time: 4 hours Accommodation options: Nga'moru Wilderness Camp

With about 475 bird species resident in the park, birding enthusiasts are also guaranteed a hell of a blast during this game drive. In the afternoon, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation and then pay a visit to a local Karamojong community. This morning's sightings will include elephants, hyenas, lions, bohor reedbucks, Cape buffaloes, bushbucks, Rothschild's giraffes, oribi, hartebeests, waterbucks, and, if you're lucky, you'll also spot the elusive leopard. After the morning game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch and a bit of relaxation. In the afternoon you will go out in the park again, this time for a boat ride to the bottom of the falls. By the river banks, you'll see the giant Nile crocodiles, hippos and various bird species and just a short distance the Uganda kobs, buffaloes, elephants and waterbucks. Besides, there are different bird species here such as cormorant, bee-eater, Egyptian goose, kingfisher, pelican, hornbill, uncommon shoebill stork and the Goliath Heron. You will leave the boat and climb to the top of the falls for about an hour to see how marvellously the great River Nile thunderously explodes through a small gorge within the Rift Valley escarpment to fall into a pool about 43 metres below. Later in the evening, you will be driven back to your lodge for dinner and overnight. Game drive time: Full day Accommodation options: Nile Safari Lodge | Paraa Safari Lodge | Chobe Safari Lodge

Day 9: Drive to Masindi/Community Tour
Today you will be driven to Masindi, west of Murchison Falls National Park. Upon arrival in Masindi, your starting point will be the Boomu African Village, 20 kilometres from the park. It's here that you'll be introduced to the fascinating culture and traditions of the people of Bunyoro, the dominant tribe in midwestern Uganda. Boomu means ‘together' in Runyoro, and it's a women's group that was founded in 1999 to empower local women both socially and economically. Poverty was – and still is – the primary challenge facing communities here, with limited access to essential services such as health and education. At its inception, the group focused on making crafts that they sold to tourists to supplement their incomes. But today, it has evolved into a fantastic community project that offers accommodation, dining, and unique guided community tours. This secluded and beautiful village is an excellent place to experience rural Uganda, still tethered to an ancient past, and to explore the fascinating history and cultures of the Banyoro. You will indulge in village walks for a peek into authentic rural life in Uganda, visit locals working in their farms, and also be regaled by local music and dance performers and storytellers. You will have lunch at the centre – fresh food harvested from nearby farms – before setting off for today's final adventure: a hike through the nearby Kigaju Forest, which lies within the Budongo Forest catchment area. The forest has a stream in between and is a habitat for a variety of primates and other wildlife, including chimpanzees, black and white Columbus monkeys, baboons, red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, tree-climbing squirrels, monitor lizards, pythons and over 130 species of birds. You will be a guest at the eco-friendly Kigaju Forest Camp, and it's from here that you'll begin your journey to your next destination tomorrow morning. Journey time: 2 hours Accommodation options: Kigaju Forest Camp
10
Day 10: Transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Jinja
After having breakfast in the middle of the forest, you will be driven southwards to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only place in Uganda where you can track rhinos in the wild. This reserve was established to reintroduce black rhinos to Uganda following their extinction 1982. Here, with an Igeno Safaris guide in tow, you will have an opportunity to track rhinos and watch them at very close, yet safe distance. Today's lunch will be served at a restaurant near the reserve. You will then proceed to Jinja and spend the night the The Haven – close to the source of River Nile, the world's longest river. Journey time: 7 hours Accommodation options: The Haven
11
Day 11: Visit the source of River Nile
Igeno Safaris couldn't have thought of a better way for you to end your trip to Uganda than with an expedition to the spot where River Nile, the world's longest river, begins its journey before meandering through the sands of the Sahara en route to the Mediterranean Sea. You will spend the bigger part of today entirely at your own leisure: reading a book, unwinding at the pool or taking pleasure in the spectacular views of River Nile. If you are interested in more adventure, you can set your adrenaline pumping by indulging in whitewater rafting right at the source of the Nile. Peddle as you relish the beautiful scenery and thunderous Class II-Class V rapids! Other activities available in Jinja include horseback riding, bungee jumping, village walks and quad bike safaris, among others. Again, you'll spend the night at The Haven. Accommodation options: The Haven
