Day 1: Airport Pick-up and Transfer to Hotel

When you arrive at Entebbe International Airport, our guide/driver will pick you up and take you to the picturesque Laico Lake Victoria Hotel – a mere seven-minute drive from the airport – where you’ll spend the night ahead of your eight-hour journey to Kibale Forest National Park tomorrow. Time allowing you’ll go on a tour of Entebbe and browse local markets, shop locally, or check out some of this chick colonial town’s popular eateries and pubs as you mingle with the locals – Africa’s friendliest people. Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After breakfast in the morning, you will be driven through the papyrus swamps and dense jungles of the Nile Delta up to Kibale Forest National Park on the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains, Africa’s highest mountain range. Upon arrival in the park, you will check into your hotel, where you’ll have lunch before embarking on a guided walk through the crater lakes region of the park for cultural encounters with the locals. Late afternoon is reserved for a refreshing and rejuvenating forest walk, which will introduce you to the various primates and wildlife that are resident in the forest, including bushbabies, bongos, forest buffalos, forest elephants and monkeys, among others. Kibale Forest National Park is also a birder’s paradise, playing host to a plethora of Albertine Rift endemics such as the Great Blue Turaco. After the forest walk, you’ll return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight. Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking

In the morning after breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing before heading to the jungle to track chimpanzees. During the excursion, a knowledgeable Igeno Safaris guide will be on hand to give you commentary on the flora and fauna of this forest. Aside from chimpanzees, you will also see other primates that are also resident here, including the red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys and colobus monkeys. When you eventually meet the chimpanzees, you’ll be given one hour to observe them play, feed and care for each other. Compared to gorilla trekking, this is a less strenuous, yet equally poignant experience, and it will no doubt be etched in your memory for many years to come! After chimp tracking, you will return to the hotel for lunch and then head to the Bigodi swamp for an utterly unique nature walk. The Bigodi Village walk is an initiative of the locals of Bigodi Village, and it’s renowned for its diverse birdlife and the many primates that reside here. Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and game drive

After breakfast, you will leisurely drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, journeying through the crater lakes region. When you arrive in the park, you’ll take a rest, have lunch, and then head out in the wild for a game drive. Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s tourism holy grail, playing host to 95 species of mammals, including 5,000 hippos, 3,000 elephants, more than 10,000 cape buffaloes. And if you are a fan of birding, this is it! Up to 619 bird species have been recorded here – the most significant number of bird species you can find in a single protected area in the whole of eastern Africa. Day 5: Game Drive & Boat Cruise

You will begin Day 5 with an early with a game drive, starting with the mating ground of the beautiful Uganda Kobs. Today you will be on the lookout for buffaloes, lions, elephants and many more wild animals in this natural habitat before returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will go out again, this time for a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, which is a natural channel connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. Because of the abundant bird species, numerous elephants and buffaloes and hundreds of hippos cooling off at the banks, this boat cruise will no doubt be one of the highlights of your Queen Elizabeth National Park adventure. Day 6: Game drive and transfer to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast in the morning, you will be driven southwards through to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park to see the renowned tree-climbing lions. After a brief game drive within this area, you will head to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the famous mountain gorillas. You will journey through the beautiful countryside, past several traditional homesteads as you enjoy the spectacular views before you finally arrive in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will check into one of the lodges near the park for dinner and overnight ahead of tomorrow’s haunting gorilla trekking expedition. Day 7: Gorilla Trekking

In the morning after a quick, light breakfast, you will head out to the park headquarters for a briefing by the ranger guide. After equipping you with the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking, the ranger will divide you and other trekkers into 13 groups, for there are 13 habituated gorilla families in Bwindi. Gorilla trekking is a physically demanding activity because of the long hours it can take; depending on how far the gorillas will have moved, the trek could take anywhere between one and eight hours. However, from the onset, you will see various primates, coloured butterflies, birds and a variety of plant species. Even though trekking can be strenuous, it will be worth it when you finally meet the gorillas! It’s gratifying and memorable to come into contact with these peaceful, gigantic primates. According to park rules, you will be allowed to watch the gorillas at a five-metre distance as the old ones feed and the juveniles play – and for not more than one hour. After gorilla trekking, you will head back to the lodge for relaxation as you wait for the afternoon village walk to the Batwa community – former inhabitants of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest before it was gazetted – and get an opportunity to learn about their way of life. You will visit the community school, the women’s crafts shop, as well as their traditional healer. Men, women and children will gladly entertain you with traditional songs and dances before you return to the lodge to rest, dine and slumber. Day 8: Drive to Lake Mburo National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Lake Mburo National Park for your final game drive. Like most Ugandan national parks, Lake Mburo National Park has a lot of experiences to offer – from idyllic lake shores to a wind range of wildlife to scenic views of rolling and spectacular swamps and grassy valleys. Besides, Lake Mburo is the only national park in Uganda where you can have a walking safari! It’ll be a smooth drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Lake Mburo National Park. You’ll get there just in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive, which will introduce you to some of the park’s most famous residents: antelopes, buffalos, zebras, topis, reedbucks, oribis, bush pigs, small jennet cats, the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, vervet monkeys, crocodiles, hippos, baboons and the rare klipspringers, which only live on rocky outcrops. During the drive, you’ll also get a chance to see some of Lake Mburo National Park’s 350 bird species, among them the rare African finfoot and white-backed heron. After nightfall, you’ll go for a night game drive to catch a glimpse of the elusive leopards, hyenas, lions and the nocturnal bushbabies (longtailed galago), among other animals. Day 9: Game drive and transfer to Kampala

You will begin today with a guided walking safari led by a ranger and check out some of the animals you could have missed yesterday. It’ll be a short safari for you’ll have to return to the lodge for a late breakfast and then head back to Entebbe or Kampala. You will make a stopover at the Equator – the monument marking the centre of Earth – for one last Kodak moment and then continue to Kampala, arriving there in the afternoon. You can spend the rest of the day on a leisurely ramble, touring the city or shopping locally ahead of your journey back home the next day.

Day 10: Departure

Unfortunately, today is your final day with Igeno Safaris. In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven back to Entebbe International Airport to catch your flight back home.
